Becoming a reader

Books and reading has always been a big part of my life. My parents used to read out loud to me before I could read by myself and I always longed after the day when I would know how to read. I remember when my little sister was newborn and I would sit in our big old armchair and “read” to her. I obviously could´t read, I just looked at the drawings in the book and made up stories about them.

When I was a little bit older, maybe four or five years old, my dad started to teach me how to read and write. A little while later I read my first “real” book by myself. It was a book by Astrid Lingren and I probably loved every single one of the 200-something pages. I remember rereading it over and over again.

And then I turned seven and borrowed Harry Potter and the Philosopher´s Stone at my local library. It was the best and most magical book I had ever read and has made such a huge impact on me and my life. During that summer, I basically did not do anything but read Harry Potter.  I read in bed late at night, on the beach in the warm summer sun and in the car. The Harry Potter books made me laugh and cry, they made me love reading even more and if it wane´t for them, I probably never would have started this book blog.

And since then, I´ve continued reading more and more books. I even feel like for every year that passes, I just start loving books even more and they keep becoming a bigger part of my life. There´s this quote that goes something like “We read to feel like we´re less alone” (I can´t remember where it is from though) and I can really relate to that. Reading makes me feel less alone, and I´m very thankful for that.

Fragmented Bliss-book review

Note: I received an e-book copy of this book from the author for exchange of an honest review

Title: Fragmented Bliss

Author: B.J Rosalind

Genre: Poetry

About the book: A collection of honest musings on the misadventures of life and love, “Fragmented Bliss” embarks readers on a journey to collapse in laughter and tears because that is how galaxies of memories are formed.

Review:

Lies of Fire
“We set ourselves on fire,
in hope for others to admire.
From afar, we’re the epitome of life.
From near, we’re dying for the afterlife.”

-B.J Rosalind

When the author of this book contacted me and asked if I wanted to receive a review copy of it, I obviously said yes since I love to support debut authors, especially young ones.

Although Fragmented Bliss really is a poetry collection, it´s so much more too. All of the poems are kind of connected and creates one story. A story about a young woman and her journey. About independence and love and feminism. The poems are simple but still so powerful, and all of them made you feel something, think something. And all of the poems and the way they was connected with each other just felt very unique and new.

It´s a pretty short poetry collection, only about 100 pages and I read it in just a little bit over an hour. But in that short amount of time, the book made me both smile and cry. Some of the poems are really powerful and I already know that I will reread them many times.

Overall, I truly loved this poetry collection and I would recommend it to everyone who wants to read some modern poetry.

Rating: 4/5 stars

BookTubeAThon 2017

It´s that time of the year again: it´s time for BooktubeAThon, a week-long read a ton (which basically is like christmas for the online book community)  hosted by Ariel Bissett and you have no idea about how excited I´m. I simply love how the online bok community comes together during this week and tries to read as much as possible and simply celebrate books. I feel like it just makes me so excited to read and it´s a great way to discover new books. If you never have heard about BookTubeAThon before and think it sounds interesting, you can read more about it here.

Without further ado, here´s the books that I´m planning (hoping) to read:

1. Read a book with a person on the  cover

For this challenge, I´m going to read The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas. I´ve wanted to read this book since it first came out so I´m really excited to finally read it. I ordered it almost a week ago and it still hasen´t arrived though so I´m starting to get a little bit worried that it won´t arrive before the Read a Thon is over.

2. Finish a book in one day

Well, if I want to manage to read 7 books during this week, I´ll kind of have to finish every book in one day but i´m choosing Just Kids by Patti Smith for this challenge. I stumbled over an audio book copy of this book (with Patti Smith herself as the narrator) at the library the other day and i thought it seemed to be interesting so I decided to borrow it. It´s 9 hours long so it will take me a little while to listen to it but hey, it´s BookTubeAThon, the whole point of it is to spend a lot of time reading (or in this case listening to) books.

3. Read a hyped book

For this challenge I´m choosing A Monster calls by Patrick Ness. It seems to be a great book (and it´s REALLY hyped) and a pretty quick read so it´s perfect for a read a ton.

4. Read about a character that is very different from you

I´m actually still not completely sure what to read for this challenge but probably The Underdog by Markus Zusak.

5. Finish a book completely outdoors

Fragmented Bliss by Benita Jenniefer, I got a review copy of this book sent to me by the author and I can´t wait to read it. It´s a pretty short poetry book so it should´t be too hard to finish completely outdoors and for some reason i think that poetry books are the perfect books to read outside.

6. Read a book you got because of the cover

Okay, I didn´t only get Lady Susan by Jane Austen because of the cover (I also got it because she´s one of my favorite authors) but 80% of the reason I got it was the cover.

Just look at it!!!

7. Read seven books

The seventh book that I´m hoping to read is Harmonies of War by Ruby Fitzgerald. This is yet another book that I´ve received a review copy of and I´m obviously really excited to read it.

Are only of you guys participating in the Booktube a Thon reading challenge?

Unpopular opinions book tag

Hello everyone! I know that I haven’t posted anything here for a little while and the thing is that I’ve actually had a lot of time to write blog posts but I’ve been in Italy and I didn’t had any Wi-Fi (except for a few minutes every now and then at cafes and restaurants). So yeah, because of this, I wasn’t able to upload any of the blog posts that I wrote. However, I do have Wi-Fi now and I’ll try to post at least twice a week for the rest of my summer vacation. Okay, I’ll stop ramble now and get to the actual blog post.

When 4 book lovers met each other

Hello everyone! This post isn´t truly bookish really but I decided to post it anyway since I really like to read these kind of blog posts by myself.

As many of you probably already know, I have a bookstagram account called @thelittlebooknerdy and a little time ago, after talking to each other through instagram for a little while, me and three other lovely bookstagrammers decided that it would be really fun to meet each other in real life. And since we don´t live too far from each other, we soon decided a day to meet each other.
